Likely, you are still nursing yourself back to reality after this past weekend’s debauchery, so we wouldn’t want to prematurely jump start your weekend. Give OUT Day couldn’t be an easier way to do something without having to leave your couch. This national event is in it’s first year and strives to help support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & queer community, all with the click of a donation button.

It’s Friday, and hopefully you are back in action, ready to kick off the weekend with a vengeance. Grab your fiercest outfit, slap on those dancing shoes and prepare for a wild night. This benefit supports BRO’s Trans Justice program and is complete with raffle prizes galore. So get out, do a little good, and throw it down this Friday.

2/1: Apocalysp @ The Foggy Notion Portland, Friday 9:00PM
With the likes of Wienerslav and Pork Belly, as well as special guest Chelsea Starr, there’s no way this could be anything other than a killer good time! Get down this Friday with punk rock, new wave, underground, indie, queercore, and riot grrrl jams. Not to mention, this event doesn’t have a cover.

This benefit for Basic Rights Oregon will feature the live band Mattachine Social, drink specials, raffle prizes and much more. The evening, sponsored by Saturday in the Park Pride, will surely be the talk of the town and there is $5 cover.

Transgender Empowerment, and of course Dancing

It’s that time of the year again for Basic Rights Oregon to host its largest events of the year! The Transgender Justice Summit is a weekend dedicated to gathering and empowering the transgender community. Come as your beautiful self to enjoy an inspiring keynote speaker, take part in workshops, or just come out and party with the transgender community.

Below you will find information about the events happening this weekend:

10/19 – An Evening with Kylar Broadus @ Hotel Fifty, 6:30 – 8PM
Join Basic Rights Oregon for this special reception with Kylar Broadus – national leader and keynote speaker for this year’s Trans Justice Summit. Kylar is a professor, attorney, activist and public speaker from Missouri. Broadus currently serves on the board of the National Black Justice Coalition and was board chair from 2007 to 2010.  In 2010, Kylar founded Trans People of Color Coalition (TPOCC), the only national civil rights organization dedicated to the needs of Trans People of Color. And this year, he became the first openly transgender person to testify before the U.S. Senate. There is a $25 suggested donation to attend this event. There will be hors d’oeuvres provided as well as a cash bar. The venue is ADA accessible and you don’t need to worry about the annoying bathroom drama because they are gender neutral.

10/20 – 10/21 Transgender Justice Summit @ Portland State University, Smith Hall 333, 9 AM – 5 PM
After listening to the keynote speaker Kylar Broadus the evening before, enjoy a two-day leadership summit hosted by Basic Rights Oregon and Portland State University Queer Resource Center. The weekend will empower trans Oregonians and allies in the efforts to build a strong movement for Trans Justice statewide. Over these two days, the transgender community will share victories and lessons learned, explore how health care discrimination plays out in the  community, and build the skills needed to win the struggles ahead. In addition to trainings on topics ranging from “how to lobby decision makers” to “dismantling racism within the trans community,” this year’s summit will include workshops on personal needs and how to access trans-friendly services. Pre-registration is currently closed for this event, so get there early because there will be limited registration available at the door. Breakfast and lunch are included with registration costs with gluten-free and vegan meals available.

10/20 – Transgender Leadership Summit’s Saturday Night Party @ Los Locos, 7 – 10:30 PM, Free for Leadership Summit Attendees, $5-8 for Public
If you are unable to make it to the leadership summit, you can still take part in the weekend! Join the party Saturday night for an all-ages social event featuring local entertainers DJ Tab Dansby, DJ Chicklit (of Transit), and DJ II Trill (of Twerk PDX). This space is not ADA accessible, but gender neutral restrooms are available. There will be a raffle at this event with prizes, including a gift package from She Bop, a wellness exam and hormone consultation, and more!

People from all over the state venture to PDX for this event. If you are one of those travelers making the trek and are still in need for a place to crash, you know where to find us!

A Weekend For All Ages

Whether you’re a youthful teen or approaching the glamorous age of 67, there’s plenty of opportunities that guarantee a fabulous night out on the town this weekend. From swanky dinners to a roller skate party, you have NO excuse to get out there and have some fun. Hit the streets, babe!

10/11 : 2nd Thursday Social for LGBTQI Seniors @ Niki’s Restaurant, 1 – 3 PM
Feeling left out of the social scene now that you’re getting older? You don’t have to anymore. Meet and mingle in a fun and camaraderie atmosphere at Niki’s Restaurant. 2nd Thursday is an activity of Elder Resource Alliance (ERA). ERA is an advocacy program, a part of Friendly House Inc. Community Safety Net Services. The meeting will address social, health, and housing needs with intention of ending discrimination against older lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and intersex community members.

10/12 : IGNITE! The Annual Basic Rights Oregon Event @ Portland Art Museum 7:30 PM – 12 AM
The Basic Rights Oregon Dinner takes on a new form…IGNITE! A Party for LGBT Equality in Oregon. You can now choose a swanky dinner, the main event, or both. For those interested in a more intimate affair, the Donor & Corporate Sponsor Dinner is for you. After the dinner, the party heats up with IGNITE, featuring food, drink, friends…and a few surprises. Get involved and join the party!

10/12 : Drag Night at SMYRC 6:30 – 8:30 PM
This Friday the Sexual & Gender Minority Youth Resource Center (SMYRC) is hosting a Drag Night open to all youth 14-23 who identify as lgbt or queer. Queer and questioning youth ages 14-23 are welcome to perform or sit back and enjoy the show. Drag kings, drag queens, and drag queers are all encouraged to perform. SMYRC is safe space for everybody. SMYRC prohibits the use of alcohol and/or drugs before, or during your time there.

10/13 : Inferno – Hot Flash Dance @ Jones 6 – 10 PM, $8
When the twenty-something club scene isn’t your thing anymore, Inferno Dances are for you! Inferno-Hot Flash Dance Parties take you back to the 70s and bring you forward into the 21st century. The music is an eclectic mix of the greatest dance tracks from the 70s to today. Inferno-Hot Flash Dances are held early in the evening so you can groove through the entire dance AND make plans to continue to party afterward. Voted “Best Women’s Dance Regardless of Sexual Orientation” in Best of Seattle 2008 Magazine, Inferno is where friendships are re-ignited, dates are made, business networks are formed, and an entire community of women come together with laughter, joy, and love.

10/15 : Gay Skate and Trivia Night @ Oaks Park 7 – 9 PM
No matter what age you are, grab your best pair of skates and head out to the Oaks Park skate night for trivia and fun. Gay Skate has been at Oaks Park Roller Skating Rink for over twenty years, and each month it is held a different LGBT Non-Profit is supported and food, toiletries and unused clothing for Esther’s Pantry are always collected. So use the weekend to brush up on your trivia knowledge and come prepared on Monday to dominate!

With all these events occurring this weekend, your age is no excuse for staying in. We’re only as old as we feel right? So get out there and go do something this weekend!

PDX Latino Gay Pride is happening this weekend!

Portland Latino Gay Pride Festival is this Saturday, July 21, 3pm – 10pm, Pure Space (1315 NW Overton, Portland OR) and we can’t wait to celebrate CARNAVAL this year! The entertainment line-up is looking amazing.

Here’s what we know:

DeMarco DJ will get things started with the latest Latin tunes that will get you moving
Ballet Mexico En La Piel is set to perform traditional and festive folklorico dances
Tryniti La Croix is back with a show stopping number
Poder Latino and their current pageant title holders, has some surprises planned
