Weekend Happenings: NOH8 Edition

Paul Solevad PaintingIt’s that time of the month again! No, no. Not that time. (Well, maybe it is, but we’ll never tell.) More importantly, it’s time for First Friday @ the Jupiter! We’ll be debuting artist Paul Solevad’s collection, titled “Layeradium”. But you know how we like to have our hands full! We’ll also be running around in our white tees, snapping shots of all the NOH8 Campaign photoshoot guests! We’re your biggest fan, we’ll follow you until you love us… paparazzi!

Happening this week:

  • Don’t miss First Friday @ the Jupiter! Paul Solevad will showcase his paintings throughout the month of May. Derived from numerous drawing studies, this body of work addresses socio/political themes via layers of organic shapes built and rebuilt over time, sure to leave the viewer thinking long after they have left. Come down to Gallery @ the Jupiter from 4-6PM and immerse yourself in art, as well as nibbles and libations. Plus, check out the other going-ons in the Burnside ‘hood.
  • Not big on the art scene? We’ve got another way for you to express yourself! The Jupiter Hotelis proudly

Just show up makeup-ready in your white tee and get your signature NOH8 picture taken then nosh on wine and nibbles from 6-8pm. Funds raised by the portraits, priced at $40.00 for individual photos and $25.00 per person in couple or group shots, will be used to continue the NOH8 Campaign mission to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest.

  • If you’re looking for something beyond the walls of the Jupiter, there are other things happening in Portland. (Though we can’t guarantee they’ll be as much fun!) Try this on for size: Gallery Zero debuts Not Afraid of Beauty: Women’s art show and unconventional fashion show Saturday, May 5th from 6-10PM. In this special event, nine diverse female artists create work around themes of beauty and fear. The exhibit, from which a portion of the proceeds will benefit Basic Rights Oregon, explores ideas of beauty and what it means individually while questioning conventional stereotypes. Described as “dark, sexy, delicious and thrilling” the show will include paintings, photography and food art.
